Máirín Cregan approached life with a sense that everything was possible, even in times of political upheaval and war.  She was a proficient achiever in many aspects of life – fully engaged in it, always participating, never on the sidelines; succeeding.

Cregan was an activist, writer, wife, journalist, musician, mother and supporter of the Gaelic revival. Through political activism, journalism and her cultural contribution as an award-winning writer whose literature reached both young and old at home and abroad, her activities impacted locally, nationally and internationally.

With her written legacy to inform and inspire us, she is a strong exemplar for women’s capacity to achieve their goals and dreams in every area of life – professional, artistic, political, family, civic – encouraging those who come in her wake to use their talents and live by their convictions. It is this example, and this breadth of achievement, that I hope to acknowledge using the tools of the artform she is known for best: words.

Commissioned by Kerry Writers Museum, Listowel and funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media under the Regional Museum Exhibitions Scheme.

Printed with the support and assistance of National Print Museum.
