Forty Shades of Sky
1 – 16 Sept, Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry Co. Down
An exhibition of work by Roisín McGuigan will open on Thursday 1st September at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry. Although originally from the area, this will be the first exhibition of her work in Northern Ireland.
The exhibition contains work from the Sky Series, which looks at the visible boundary of our landscape with the focus
on what happens above, rather than below it. In this fresh interpretation of the landscape genre the image has become universal not specific; these horizons and skies without their supporting landscapes can belong to anyone, anywhere. The existence of boundaries is undeniable, we are all familiar with them either personal or imposed, everyone has a boundary they either need or need to cross. In these paintings the sky evokes a range of feelings such as angst, torment, peace, freedom, while the blank horizon allows the viewer room to interpret it from their own personal perspective and context.
